Human rights situation in the DRC and prospects for peace

Under the aegis of the Rencontre Africaine pour la Défense des Droits de l’Homme (RADDHO) and its partners: the Catholic International Education Office (OIEC), the World Organization against Torture
(OMCT), the Réseau de Formation et de Recherche sur les Migrations Africaines (REFORMAF), the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS), a conference was held on the
sidelines of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on the human rights situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.


The aim of the meeting was to support the work of the fact-finding commission on the ongoing crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The panelists addressed the following issues: the persistent violence despite the resolution passed on February 7, 2025, the media coverage deficit, the breakdown of the social fabric and its collapse, and finally, the primacy education even in times of war.
At the end of the meeting, several recommendations were made:

  • Create a synergy of action between civil society organizations and the media to
    remedy the media deficit;
  • Prosecute the perpetrators of crimes;
  • Work towards setting up an international criminal tribunal for the Congo;
  • Consider and document the Congolese massacres as genocide;
  • Immediately suspend agreements to purchase blood minerals from the DRC;
  • Urgently assist and protect human rights activists;
  • Support the international community’s efforts to bring peace to the east of the country Democratic
    Republic of Congo;
  • Put an immediate end to the replacement of indigenous populations by non-indigenous peoples;
  • Respect the territorial integrity of the Congo;
